Discover Skövde, between the two biggest lakes in Sweden :-)
Our house is from 1979 and was designed by an architect who had a vision to re-create the traditional old red Swedish cottage but in a new modern way.
The house has two floors. On the bottom floor you will find the kitchen, a spacious livingroom / diningroom, library/study and a bathroom with a shower and washing machine. Upstairs there is a second living room, the master bedroom with a double bed, two children´s rooms and a guest room. There is also a second bathroom with a bathtub.
The garden is situated on the backside of the house. It is not a big garden, but it has a wooden terrace, grass, an apple tree and some other fruit plants. In the summer it is quite nice to sit on the terrace, grill, read, play a board game or just relax. Our house is light, comfortable and cosy, but is neither luxurious nor state of the art! We have lived here since 2010 and are little by little modernising and renovating the house.
We have most modern equipment such as a dishwasher, microwave, electric stove, blu ray dvd player, wifi, chrome cast, washing machine, an X-box360 and even an old Play Station 2. For the garden there is also a quality brand barbecue if you enjoy grilling.
We live in a cul-de-sac with a sandbox just outside the kitchen window and a somewhat bigger playground about 100 meters away. There are plenty of other playgrounds in the area, with a small but digital playground near the center of our neighbourhood.
We live about 5 km north of the city centre in a calm, quiet and child friendly area with the forrest just around the corner. There is a lot of green space and walking paths in the area. You reach the city centre with the local bus in about 25 minutes and with the car in about 15 minutes. There are also excellent bicycle paths all over the city if you prefer a bit of exercise. Our bikes are at your disposal.

About the neighborhood
Welcome to Skövde, a city of about 50,000 inhabitants and situated in the southwest of Sweden in the region Västra Götaland between the two biggest lakes of Sweden (Vänern and Vättern). Sweden´s second city Göteborg (Gothenburg) is about 120 km (± 1 hour by train) away and the capital Stockholm about 350 km away (± 2 hours by train).
Skövde is the "capital" in the area in terms of culture, restaurants and shopping. You can find a lot of things of interest both in Skövde as well as in the region. In the summer the region is a popular place for holiday makers from all over Sweden and the nordic countries. Regardless of your interests there is surely someting to do and see.
Our adventure swimming pool, Arena Skövde, is one of Northern Europe´s most modern and well worth a visit. Just 25 km away one of Sweden´s most popular and biggest waterparks, Skara Sommarland, is situated. A must if you travel with children (or youthfully minded adults:-). If you prefer a dip in a plain lake, there are plenty to choose from in the area, we will be happy to give you directions.
The area around Skövde is known for it´s beautiful nature and historic sites. Our house is therefore a great starting spot from where to explore old monasteries and churches and experience the beautiful nature of the region. There are several hiking trails, medieval churches, castles and other places of interest a short drive away from Skövde. Tiveden National Park might also be of interest if you are into hiking.
The city is build on the slope of the mountain "Billingen" of which you can get a spectacular view of the region (with clear weather you can see the lake Vättern which is about 35km away!)
Big cities such as Gothenburg, Jönköping, Örebro and Karlstad are easily reachable by car or train within 1 to 2 hours and thus great for day visits. Other smaller but charming cities worth visiting in the area are Hjo and Karlsborg by the lake Vättern and Mariestad and Lidköping by the lake Vänern. We will provide plenty of tips on how to spend your holiday here!

We are a family of four; Louise, Remco, Jonathan and Anna.
Louise is working as a painter. Remco, who is originally from the Netherlands, works for the Swedish Public Employment Service as an employment officer. Our son Jonathan is born 2009 and our daughter Anna is born 2011. Both our children are already experienced house exchangers and enjoy it as much as we do! We take great pride in looking after of our exchange house with big respect and caution, and expect you to do the same with our house.
Our family wouldn't be complete without our beloved pets which we would like you take care of during the exchange; Alfons the cat, who enjoys small strolls around the garden and the surroundings but spend most of his time relaxing, Bernard, the hairy cat with blue eyes who likes to drink from the bath tub, glas of water you left on the table or the water of the christmas tree and has his own special but wonderful personality, and last but certainly not least we have our beloved rabbits, Frida and Pelle, who both enjoys eating snacks and keeping track of what the rest of the family is busy with. During the winter Frida and Pelle live indoors and the summer they reside in their summerhouse, enjoying the garden.
Taking care of our pets shouldn´t mean too much hard work - food and water once a day and occasionally freshing up the rabbit cage and catlitter box. Alfons, Bernard, Frida and Pelle can be left alone for a night without any problems. If you want to leave the house for a longer time, we can ask if our neighbours can look after them. Our previous house exchange guests and our pets have all gotten along really well with each other! We like animals and would love to look after yours if you have any. So far, we have taken care of cats, hens, rabbits, goldfish and guinea pigs.
We love to travel and explore new places, and we discovered that exchanging houses is a wonderful way of doing this. Our interests are more of the cultural kind rather than sport or outdoor life. We enjoy museums, historical sites, flea markets, film and literature, but also typical "family activities" such as playing board games, going to the swim hall, visiting the zoo.
