Fun, friendly family in historic 1907 German-built house in West Hartford. We have extra space and welcome youth/teen visits from all over the world!

We're glad to host families who are travelling through or would like to see New York and Boston. This doesn't need to involve an exchange; we love providing hospitality and welcoming people from other places. We're a few minutes walk from Elizabeth Park, which has a historic rose garden, and a few minutes drive from several historic houses that are museums: those of Mark Twain, Harriet Beecher Stowe (who wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin), and Noah Webster (who wrote America's dictionary). The golden-domed Capitol building of Connecticut is nearby, as is the Connecticut River. Hartford is just between Boston and New York, and either can be reached by car in two hours. Take a hike up nearby Talcott Hill to see the Heublein Tower and get a great view of the area from the top of the tower. Around the corner from our house is a wonderful spot for delicious ice cream from a local dairy.

Our family is really into music. We play violin, cello, piano, and pipe organ, and we love to sing, too. We like hiking around near lakes and woods close to our house and climbing trees. One of the children is really into birds, another loves dancing. We recently all learned to dance modern square dance and travelled to a nearby convention. We love doing things as a family -- making our own bread, celebrating Christmas in a German way, travelling together internationally. All of the children were born in Sweden.
