VILLA LA VECQUEE : STYLISH HOUSE ON THE HILLY OUTSKIRTS OF LIEGE

Renovated Anglo-Norman style villa with a large organic garden ( or park !) (awarded "Best garden for the protection of wild life and biodiversity") surrounded by a forest on one side (with pedagogical paths, a brook and a pool with a BBQ area, and a vita trail). We are the last house in the street and at the other end of the street there is a large public playground for children.

What are the sights nearby?
-the historical cities of Liège, Huy and Namur all along the river Meuse (all three have a citadel and river cruises)
-the picturesque bluestone villages along the river Ourthe (Tilff, Esneux, or Comblain with its caves) and Amblève ( Remouchamps with breathtaking caves)
-the beautiful Ardennes (with famous cities as Spa with its waters and public baths , Stavelot with its abbey and famous car race circuit of Francorchamps, or the pilgrimage centre of Banneux in the province of Liège.

What to do ?
-have a good swim in a relaxing heated outdoor swimming pool (summer only!) or sunbathe on its sundeck
-enjoy a Weber BBQ on the upper sundeck
-enjoy watching films or your favourites series on Netflix with our home cinema, curled up in the sofa in our lounge : another great experience!

BONCELLES has all the imaginable facilities (a large public playground for children, tennis courts, a royal golf club, a horse riding school, a fitness centre, a fort, an outdoor olympic swimming pool, a dozen of restaurants, local shops including an excellent organic shop plus a large shopping centre with CARREFOUR, DELHAIZE, COLRUYT, ALDI, LIDL (15 minutes' walk).

Our house is only 10 minutes' drive from Liège historical centre (citadel, roman and gothic churches, museums among which the famous fine arts museum La Boverie, local breweries, and local folklore of puppets).

Enjoy our lifestyle at home : our main hobbies are cooking, gardening, walking, cycling, bird-watching, reading, listening to good music and watching movies on our home cinema (large number of CDs and DVDs). In winter we enjoy the atmosphere of our wood-burner.

IIdeally situated too (maximum one hour drive) if you want to experience very different cultures in Brussels, Maastricht, Luxembourg, Aachen, Cologne, the Ardennes, or simply the neighbouring greystone villages of Tilff and Esneux in the valley.
You don't feel like driving? : just cross the road and step into the natural reserve of le Bois de la Vecquée (also the name of the brook crossing our garden).

And last but not least enjoy our uncomparable friendly welcome appreciated by all our exchange partners since 1988!

N.B. We have 2 cute young cats (twin brother and sister) at home to look after but all they need is some fresh water and daily croquettes. They don’t use any litter box. They can come in and out freely through their connected catflap. But they like being talked too when I’m away from home🤣

Lifestyle

As retired seniors we spend most of our time with our family and friends. We enjoy gardening, socializing, travelling with Intervac, and cooking. We are also very much interested in wines. Albert enjoys piloting in Spa airfield. I like watching films on Netflix with our home cinema. We read a lot and have installed a small book library in front of our house to share our pleasure of reading. We have two sons (43,42) who are both married, are both civil engineers (and as such real globe trotters!). We have 5 grandchildren ranging from 5 to 15 who I often look after here at home, their playground. So there are many toys for them (bike, go-kart, LEGO’s, a ping pong table, a baby foot, a soccer goal, rackets, a large collection of DVDs and educational books...).Of course we also need some time to relax walking, cycling, tasting wine and food, and discovering other friendly places and countries around. Our garden has been selected by NATAGORA for the protection of biodiversity in nature (and I'm very proud of it!).
