We are living in the beautiful city of Leipzig, boomtown of the eastern part of Germany, near to:
- Berlin (1 hrs by train, 2 hrs by car),
- Dresden (80 minutes by train, 1 hr by car),
- Prague (2,5 hrs by car),
- Weimar (80 minutes by car) ,
- Potsdam (100 minutes by car) and many others...
This is the true middle of Germany, the city where it all began: The peaceful revolution of 1989 startet right here in the churches and on the streets of good old Leipzig. There are about 600.000 people living here.
Concerning our home: We live in a very quiet and green neighbourhood. Lots of families live here, we have some playgrounds and lots of wood, a big park, and a small hill, the "Fockeberg" (60m high), where you can have a wonderful view all over the whole city of Leipzig. During summertime the temperature is between 25-32 C
On the one hand, we live very close to Leipzig city center (10 min by bike, bus, car or tram) in a quarter called Südvorstadt, famous for its architecture of the 1910s and 20s. Intervac friends used to compare it to Soho London for lots of bars, restaurants, cabarets, and independent shops. You can meet all kinds of people here: From freak to family, from student to browker, from tavern to fine cuisine, everything is here for you to discover.
On the other hand, there is the quiet forest Auenwald starting just two blocks away from our home. Visit the Leipzig Wildpark, take a short ride by one of our bikes and take a cool bath in the Lake of Cospuden (15 min by bike) or one of many other lakes in our region called the Leipziger Neuseenland. Lake Cospuden provides sand beaches as well as nature beaches, there is a boat rental at the haven with restaurants, a diving and surfing school, endless kilometers for biking or rollerblading, even a sauna. In the neighbourhood there is Belantis, Germany´s newest family entertainment park. On Markkleeberger See (12 minutes by car from our home) in the neighbourhood we have a worldclass canoe-park.
In the City you can find dozens of museums (e.g. the new Bildermuseum), one of Europe´s biggest train stations with a big shopping mall, the historical city center with the world famous St. Thomas Church (J.S. Bach worked here), the Leipzig Opera and of course, the legendary Leipzig Gewandhaus. The city is packed with shops of all kinds and restaurants including Auerbach´s Keller from Goethe´s novel Faust. Also there is the Leipzig Zentralstadion with 45000 seats and Leipzig Arena, a modern stadium hall for rock concerts as well as for a variety of sport events.
We have a world famous zoo in Leipzig with attraction: Gondwanaland, the Tropical Experience World with 500 different animals on 20 000 square meters to be discovered also on a boat trip.
Since 2010, we have another attraction in our neighbourhood. The World´s largest 360° Panometer with its annual program called Amazonien is just a few blocks away from our home. Don´t miss it!!
