House in beautiful Haarlem, 12 minutes from Amsterdam Center and the sea
Our house has been build in 1911 and it is situated at the fringe of the center of the old town of Haarlem, near the central railway station and a nice shopping area. We have a city home on the ground floor, with a very spacious living room, a new kitchen, a separate toilet, a bathroom and a master bed room (bed is 160 x 200). In the back house there is also a stair to a 2e floor. Upstairs is the 2nd bedroom /study room with a large bed, with 2 matresses (so you can sleep, if you want, separate in 2 beds).
Our street is very nice and the people are very helpful.
Our house is just 7 minutes walking to the St. Bavo cathedral and the old town hall.
The city is very old and beautiful. There are many interesting buildings, musea, theaters and shops. Amsterdam is so close that you can go by bike. By train (6 minutes walking) you are in 12 minutes in the middle of the center of Amsterdam.
The North Sea is only 6 kilometers away. The dunes are beautiful. You can drive there by car (5 minutes) or go by bicycle (15 minutes). The dunes are also very nice to walk through.
Our public transport is very good. From Schiphol to Haarlem by bus, every 6 minutes. The old cities Leiden (20 min., Delft 46 minutes, etc., you can reach theme very often and fast.
We are looking forward to exchange with you.

About the neighborhood
We live just near the railway-station, at the edge of the center, 50 meters to a beautiful parc, where people swim in the summer and skate in the winter. 7 minutes walking to the middle of Haarlem, where the cathedral is and where you find many café's and restaurants.
Around the corner of our house you find exclusiv shops for dailey grocery's and special food, like fish, cheese, wine, etc. Also a bookshop.
Haarlem is connected by the the sea and between Haarlem and the sea there is a national park with beautiful sand dunes, lakes. You find there many birds, deers and flowers.
Between Haarlem and Amsterdam you can go by bike over the 'polders', with meadows, cows, lakes, canals and a lot of fish.

The communication was very good, and we were looking forward to the exchange. Unfortunately we had to cancel it twice, because of COVID-19 measures.
We got in touch with Mariel a number of times before completing the exchange and our messages got warmer and warmer, exactly what we expect when we do an exchange! We gave each other tips about what to do or not while being at each other's homes. It is much easier to see what people are really interested in when you live in their house: books can give precious clues. They also recommeded we used the train as the services are excellent in the Netherlands and we could easily go to Delft and Utrecht from Haarlem, they reminded us to book visits in advance because of the Covid. As there was a heatwave in France I tried to advise them as to what they could do or visit and avoid the heat at the same time. Mariel contemplated making some apricot jam after tasting the home made one we had left for them but I think she thought better of it because of the temperatures! I suggested she took a few ready made pots back home .....just for fun and to think of Burgundy once back home!
Sfeervol huis, goede locatie, correct contact / heldere afspraken
