Cottage in Muskoka
Immerse yourself in the rustic charm of our cottage on the shore of Lake of Bays, just 20 minutes from Algonquin Park.
The cottage is a timber frame design with a walkout basement to the lakeside. On the main floor, there is a kitchen and dining and living room with a woodstove. A corridor library leads through the ‘hobbit door’ to the master bedroom with en-suite washroom with bath and shower. Off the master bedroom, a room has been added with gas fireplace, two desks and an elliptical, a perfect place to for morning yoga or tai chi. The sunroom is a lovely place to enjoy your morning coffee or watch the sunset. A deck off the sunroom has a barbeque and outside dining table for four. In the walkout basement, there is a den with TV, 3 bedrooms with double beds, and a second washroom with a shower. The washer and dryer are located off the hallway.
There are two other buildings on the property. The sleeping cabin by the lake has a double bed and a single bed, there is a porch with a swinging couch. There is also a pottery studio that could be used for art projects or a writing room.
Our cottage is a place to unwind. Listen to the waves lapping on the beach. Read in the shade of the pine trees. Kayak through the morning mist. Wander along the walking path beside the lake. Savour fried chicken over the bonfire. Enjoy the sunset as you sit on the sandy beach. Experience the call of the loons as you gaze at the stars.
***John has allergies to dogs and cats. He can be around some non-shedding dogs like poodles, Portuguese water dogs, and wheaten terriers. But, we would prefer not having the responsibility of looking after a pet.
Another possibility is January. The cottage is a perfect place to experience a Canadian winter. Try the sport of curling on the ice or snowshoeing through the woods. Watch the deer as they pass by the cottage. Fall is specular!
It is beautiful to walk just down a path along the lake. You can walk for a mile along the shoreline before it hooks back up with the newer paved Seabreeze Road. Or ramble along Warblers’ Trail, a path that neighbours created that runs from behind our cottage, through the woods.

Take a Cruise On the SS Bigwin, leaves from Dorset
The historical SS Bigwin in Dorset was restored by a coalition of Lake of Bays cottagers, residents and organizations looking to return this precious part of lost heritage to Lake of Bays. This beautiful vessel has a storied past, carrying guests such as Clark Gable, Louis Armstrong, Winston Churchill, Greta Garbo and many other famous people out to the luxurious Bigwin Inn on Bigwin Island from 1925 – 1970.
Travel Back in Time on the Wenonah II, it leaves from Gravenhurst.
One of the best ways to enjoy Muskoka’s serene beauty is aboard one of the many cruise vessels that ply the region’s waterways. Ranging from sightseeing tours along fabled Millionaire’s Row, lunch and dinner cruises, and overnight adventures which include accommodations at a historic resort, a cruise in Muskoka is an experience to be cherished forever.
Muskoka Steamships and Discovery Centre is home to one of Canada’s most famous cruise vessels, Royal Mail Ship Segwun, North America’s oldest operating steamship. Launched in 1887, this 97 passenger piece of Canadian history – along with the larger replica steamship, Wenonah II – enthrals visitors throughout the cruise season from Muskoka Wharf at its homeport of Gravenhurst. Cruises embark 7 days a week.
