House with swimming pond near Vienna, Austria
Dear Intervac friends,
We are living in Mistelbach, a medium town 45 minutes north of Vienna. Our house was built in 1955 and has been fully renewed and provides a colorful cozy mix of modern and vintage pieces. It has 2 levels plus a cellar (with washing machine and laundry dryer). On the ground floor: office with private infrared sauna, a bathroom with shower and toilet and our 40 sqm open living-dining-kitchen-room with Sat TV, books, DVDs, PS3, DVDplayer, Netflix, free Wifi and a wooden fireplace. Our big kitchen is fully equipped and used to cooking together. Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms (1 double bed, 2 french beds and a spare mattress to be laid on the floor if needed), a second bathroom with shower and tub, and another toilet. Next to our entrance there is a new sun-room that opens to the wooden deck that partly covers the swimming pond. We love to sit there, have breakfast or read any time of the year, looking into the garden.
In our enclosed garden there is a big private swimming pond (natural water, plants, shy frogs, no fish, no fence, 150 cm deep, you need to be a swimmer), a wooden deck area and a table for 8 including a big Weber coal grill. In summer the garden is full of flowers and provides raspberries, tomatoes and herbs for you everyday. Our pond is nice and cool even on hot days. If you prefer chlorine water there is a public swimming pool in town with slides and facilties for beach volleyball and tennis.
2 adult bikes can be used to explore the region. If you like to go for walks, you will reach the woods, soft hills and fields in a couple of minutes walk. There is also a playground and a little football field across the street.

When travelling we love to meet our exchange partners to show each other around and make new friends - if they are interested, of course. We do not allow smoking in our house or in the wooden areas of our garden. Due to an allergy we can´t live in homes with cats or take care of your furry darlings.

About the neighborhood
There are two supermarkets just around the corner and another bakery 300m away, right beside the big museum of Hermann Nitsch. You can reach the city center of Mistelbach in 5 min by car, 10 min bikeride or 15 min. walk. In town you find 3 shopping centers, cinema, hospital, restaurants, bars, shops of any kind and much more. There is also a new big shopping center 20 min. away towards Vienna.
Staying in our home you can explore a perfect mix of urban and historic culture (Vienna) and relaxed country feeling (hometown and region). There are little villages with wine cellars, to relax, enjoy wine and the regional culture. Hundreds of kilometers of bike and walkings trails are all around, you can also rent bikes. Within 1 hour you will find national parks with beautiful nature. The Weinviertel region is the warmest in Austria, and as we have a lot of winemakers and farmers all around, you can buy food directly from the producers or on markets and in little farm shops.
Looking for culture you can visit the Hermann Nitsch Museum (in our street), beautiful Liechtenstein castles, local museums or small festivals. For more sightseeing, take a trip to Vienna. The famous Wachau region is 1,5 hours away, Salzburg 3 hours by car (or 2,5 by train from Vienna).The famous Lake Neusiedl (surfing, sailing) is 2 hours away, as well as the first Alp mountains. There´s sailing and surfing on the Old Danube in Vienna in the middle of the city as well as nightlife. Don´t forget to try the beautiful ancient Eastern and Northeastern cities like Bratislava, Praha, Brno, Mikulov, Valtice, Lednice, ... Heading towards the Czech Republic border (20 min. you need a passport to cross) you can reach a thermal spa (with outdoor pool) and a golf course in Laa/Thaya.

Nice people, with good, honest and correct communication. Everything was as indicated in the Intervac-listing. The house is located in a quiet village, and a good place to make combination of the city of Vienna with the nice scenery of the Weinviertel.

Andreas (53) is a high school teacher and Angela (51) does PR and studies for journalism. Our boys (26 and 23) have moved out and live in Vienna. They will not travel with us, but you can always contact them in case of trouble.
