Cozy Rooftop Apartment in Vienna
We live in a newly constructed part of a house that was originally built around 1900. Therefore, the house combines the charms of old with the comfort of the new. The apartment is sunny and cozy (65 sqm) and consists of a living dining kitchen facing South, a bathroom, and two bedrooms facing North. There is also an extra toilet and a rooftop terrace that overlooks the courtyard. On nice days one can see parts of the Viennese forest when looking to the West. We are non-smokers and ask you to refrain from smoking in the apartment, but you are welcome to smoke on the terrace.
The street we live in is rather quiet, but the vicinity offers all kinds if amenities: supermarkets, bakeries and drug stores as well as a public swimming pool, an ice skating rink in winter, and a park with a small playground. Furthermore we live rather close to the city center with a good public transport connection (trams and subway) that will take you to all famous Viennese sights, and the "Wienerwald" (vinyards and forests) is also within walking distance.
Our district of Hernals also offers plenty of opportunities to visit a traditional "Heuriger" - a place that serves simple dishes and home-grown wine.

We are connected to the city centre by tram (43). It takes 10 to 20 minutes to get to the central district and the main sights. The subway U6 takes you to the main shopping street (Mariahilfer Straße) as well as to "Donauinsel" where you can go walking, jogging, cycling or swimming in the River Danube. It also connects to all other subway lines, so you can get to other sights, the central station, and the airport rather quickly. It also directly connects to Wesbahnhof (Westend station) from where your can easily go to Salzburg (about 3h) and the Alpine region.

Tom and Paula went out of their way to make us and our friends feel at home and we spent a splendid time in their house.
A very successful home exchange that originally began as a house-sitting arrangement but turned into a full home exchange. The rooftop flat is lovely and within walking distance of the U-Bahn, offering a direct connection to the city centre. Communication was smooth throughout, and we had the pleasure of meeting Tamara, Florian, and Isidor before their return. They are truly delightful people — as second-generation home exchangers, they know all the ins and outs of the process.
Jempi und Yolande haben immer sehr schnell geantwortet und sind uns in vielen Punkten sehr entgegen gekommen. Sowohl ihr Hausals auch die Wohnung am Meer.waren super vorbereitet, sodass wir uns gleich wohl gefühlt haben. Auch unsere Wohnung haben sie in einem sehr guten Zustand hinterlassen. Wir haben uns auch sehr gefreut, dass sie sich am Ende des Urlaubs nich einige Stunden Zeit genommen haben,.um uns zu treffen. Wir haben einen wunderbaren Nachmittag miteinander verbracht.
Im Vergleich zu unseren anderen Tausch-Partner:innen war Paul leider etwas unselbständig, u.a. hat er unseren Wohnungsschlüssel verloren und wir mussten aus der Ferne eine Möglichkeit organisieren, wie er trotzdem in unsere Wohnung kommt. So etwas kann passieren und wir rechnen eigentlich immer damit, dass etwas kaputtgehen kann (das passiert uns daheim ja auch), aber in diesem Fall kam es leider zu einer gewissen Häufung an (kleinen) Reparaturarbeiten, die nach unserem Tausch notwendig waren. Pauls Haus war etwas chaotisch, aber im Großen und Ganzen haben wir uns gut zurechtgefunden. Insgesamt haben die positiven Aspekte des Tausches aber überwogen und wir waren froh, getauscht zu haben.

A family that loves to travel!
We (Florian and Tamara) are in our 30ies. Our son Isidor was born in October 2022. Florian works at the University of Vienna at the Department of East Asian Studies, Tamara is employed at the Austrian Science Fund. After living in Japan for some years we returned to Vienna, but we still feel the strong urge to travel and see different places all over the world. We started exchanging in the summer of 2017 (Gouda/NL and Lisbon/P) and are looking forward to more traveling and meeting new Intervac members.
