The park in the photo is within 100m of the house. Two shops and two bars are about 300m from the house. You can walk to the Athlone GAA sports club (Irish games and tennis) 400m, and the public Regional Sports Centre (Swimming pool, gym, sauna, rollerblading etc) 450m from the house.
The town centre with bars, restaurants, train to Dublin & Galway, and bus terminal to North and South etc. is 1km from the house. All other photos were taken about 1km to 1.5km from the house
Athlone is the largest town in the centre of Ireland with a population (if both sides of the river are included) of about 20,000
.
TRANSPORT. Our house is 300m from exit 11 on the new M6 Dublin-Athlone-Galway road. The house is very easy to find, even at night. Athlone is divided by the river and the provinces of Connaught (West) and Leinster (East), although only the eastern side of the river is officially in Athlone . Im Vergleich zu unseren anderen Tausch-Partner:innen war Paul leider etwas unselbständig, u.a. hat er unseren Wohnungsschlüssel verloren und wir mussten aus der Ferne eine Möglichkeit organisieren, wie er trotzdem in unsere Wohnung kommt. So etwas kann passieren und wir rechnen eigentlich immer damit, dass etwas kaputtgehen kann (das passiert uns daheim ja auch), aber in diesem Fall kam es leider zu einer gewissen Häufung an (kleinen) Reparaturarbeiten, die nach unserem Tausch notwendig waren. Pauls Haus war etwas chaotisch, aber im Großen und Ganzen haben wir uns gut zurechtgefunden. Insgesamt haben die positiven Aspekte des Tausches aber überwogen und wir waren froh, getauscht zu haben.
Sehr nette Kommunikation, Haus wie beschrieben, sehr gute Lage im Herzen Irlands. Wir hatten einen wunderbaren Urlaub!

I am Paul, a lecturer in a third-level college. It will probably be just two of us travelling to your home but it's possible my adult kids, or maybe my mother would visit for a weekend. My own kids have grown up and left home, but there are some sports things left behind available for visiting kids (tennis rackets,balls skates etc.) The neighbourhood kids play football and other games in small parks within the cul-de-sac/road, and have enjoyed playing with intervac visiting kids in the past.
Previous exchangers from Germany Italy, Austria, France, England, Holland and Spain either can give a reference or left notes or e-mails to say they really enjoyed their Irish vacation in our house.
