Eco-friendly house from 1928 between Lübeck and Hamburg. Perfect for families with dogs.
Welcome to Reinfeld in Holstein! It’s a little city with a population of 9000 inhabitants founded by greedy little monks in 1186. This is where the little creek Heilsau meets the river Trave. The monks created about 60 ponds to raise carp and other fish to eat on the days when meat was not allowed in the Middle Ages. Luckily, the nearby Hanseatic cities of Lubeck (population 200.000) and Hamburg (2 million) grew bigger at the same time. As they say: Carpe diem!
Our typical Northern-German brick built family home from 1928 is located in a quiet residential area close to Reinfeld's train station (800m). From here you can reach Lubeck in 10 minutes, the beaches and ferries of the Baltic Sea in 25 minutes and Hamburg in 40 minutes - all by comfortable new trains every 30 minutes or via highway A1 by car.
Berlin and Copenhagen are three hours away by car or train, so a day trip is possible but staying for at least one night is worthwhile.
We have a nice dog and kids proof garden with toys and space to play. There is a trampoline, a slackline and two horizontal bars to do gymnastics. We also have an outdoor jacuzzi for the kids during the day and their parents after the little ones have gone to bed.
Over the last years we have spent a lot of time renovating our home, so most rooms have a new and modern interior and keep changing constantly. Lately, the cellar and the garage have been modernized. Now, we have an eco-friendly sauna for up to 70 degrees.
We have green electricity, solar panels on our roof, as well as a modern heat pump for water and heating, so our house is quite environmentally friendly.
There are three bikes for adults (including two e-bikes) and two bikes for children. We can also offer a canoe for the whole family. The river Trave, which runs down to the old city of Lubeck, is just five minutes away.
We would appreciate an eco-friendly holiday with little or no use of cars. So, if you're close to a train or bus network: even better!
We have a type-2 wallbox to charge our electric car which can be used if necessary.

About the neighborhood
Schleswig-Holstein, our state and region between Denmark and Hamburg, is known for a good life between two seas. The North Sea on the west coast and the Baltic Sea on the east coast. And inbetween: happy Vikings and Saxons.
Reinfeld is a small city wih 9000 inhabitants between Lubeck and Hamburg. We have all the necessary infrastructure such as supermarkets, gas stations, doctors, pharmacies, little shops and cafés, and in the summer an open air swimming pool at the lake "Herrenteich". And, most importantly, a train station with regular connections to Lubeck and Hamburg.
15 km from UNESCO World Heritage Lubeck. Here you can walk through the beautiful historic city, take boat tours around the city island or to the beaches of Travemuende at the Baltic Sea, visit some of the biggest German cathedrals in so-called Brick Gothic, go to museums such as the European Hanseatic Museum or simply enjoy the famous Lubeck Marzipan. Lubeck is also famous for three Nobel Prize winners: Thomas Mann, Willy Brandt and Guenther Grass. Each one has his own museum and exhibitions, of course. Art, music, theatre and literature are a big deal in this rather small city anyway.
Around christmas, Lubeck opens its famous Christmas markets which attract hundreds of thousands of tourists every year.

Hamburg, of course, offers a big variety of sights: the port, Elbphilharmonie, Reeperbahn, musical theatre, Miniature Wonderland,... just to name a few. With almost two million inhabitants, Hamburg is the second biggest German city and is worth a trip all around the year. Shopping and culture, hanseatic lifestyle and a rich history make Hamburg one of the most beautiful places to be.

Dies waren unsere ersten nicht-simultane Haustausch-Ferien. Wir hatten sehr nette und bereits erfahrene Haustausch-Partner. Alles lief völlig reibungslos und unkompliziert ab. Aufgrund dieser durchweg positiven Erfahrungen werden wir weitere Haustausch-Ferien machen.
Liebenswerte Gastgeber mit einem muckeligen Ferienhaus. Netter Kontakt, schöne Gegend um zu wandern oder die Region zu erkunden. Das Haus ist klein aber fein.
Das Haus nebst Umfeld war gut beschrieben. Die Anweisungen und Hinweise der Hausbesitzer sehr treffend und hilfreich. Das Haus ist sehr gut ausgestattet und sehr viele Dinge dürfen mitbenutzt werden. Der Garten ist groß, gut gesichert, sehr schön angelegt und top gepflegt. Wir durften sogar das anfallende Gemüse ernten und verwerten. Für uns sehr relevant: Haustiere willkommen - so konnten wir unseren Vierbeiner unproblematisch mit in den Urlaub nehmen. Ein toller Ausgangspunkt für interessante und spannende Tagesausflüge.
Unser Haus und Garten waren bei diesem nicht-simultanen Tausch in besten Händen.

Warm and friendly dog-lovers
We are Doreen and Nils (both 45) with Selma (10), Janne (8) and our dog Taxi. We both work as teachers and moved to Reinfeld in 2013. Ever since we have tried to make our home as cosy and comfortable as possible with neverending effort which turned for the best when Covid forced us to stay at home a lot in 2020 and 2021. We have both been vaccinated three times.
Our dog Taxi usually travels with us. But who knows… he‘s 12.
