country home outside Aachen city center - Landhaus mit großem Garten vor den Toren Aachens
Our house is situated in the gently hilly rural outskirt of the ancient university city of Aachen, with 250 000 inhabitants. All around the house, you’ll find a huge, lush garden with an elaborate composition of flowers, bushes, old and shady fruit trees, a small pond with water lilies and a wide lawn offering picturesque sitting spots and hidden deck chairs for private sun bathing. A small green house, vegetable patch, as well as herb and fruit garden are ready for seasonal harvesting.
The house has 2 floors - ground floor & first floor – and basement.
Ground floor hosts kitchen, dining, sitting with an open fireplace, winter garden and spacious terrace, guest room and bathroom with toilet and shower.
The large kitchen is well equipped for passionate cooks. It has a big round breakfast table and garden windows in two directions.
On the first floor you find a double bedroom with a king-size bed, dressing room and a big bathroom with a bathtub.
At 5 km cycling distance from our home, right at Aachen historic city center you’ll find an inviting pattern of centuries-old narrow alleys with carefully restored facades housing elegant boutique stores, cafés and restaurants. The area surrounding UNESCO world heritage cathedral and palatial medieval town hall has charming historic cobblestone pavement and is fully pedestrianized, dotted with benches under shady trees and a wide variety of artistic fountains.

Unser Haus liegt am Stadtrand der alten Universitätsstadt Aachen (250 000 EW.) umgeben von einem malerischen Garten (Gemüsegarten, Kräuterbeet, alte Obstbäume, Wiese, Gewächshaus und zwei Teiche). Gerne dürfen Kräuter, Obst und Gemüse je nach Saison geerntet werden. Es gibt verschiedene Sitz- und Liegeplätze mit entsprechenden Möbeln.
Das Haus besteht aus Keller, Erdgeschoss und 1. Stock.
Im Erdgeschoss ist die Küche, Ess- und Wohnzimmer (mit Kaminofen) und einen Wintergarten sowie ein kleines Gästezimmer mit einer Schlafcouch (125 cm breit) und ein Bad mit Dusche.
In der oberen Etage ist ein Schlafzimmer mit Doppelbett, ein Ankleidezimmer und ein großes Bad mit Wanne.
Die Aachener Altstadt mit ihren historischen Fassaden, abwechslungsreiche Straßen, alten Gassen und romantischen Plätzen erstreckt sich rund um das Weltkulturerbe Dom und Rathaus (5 km entfernt).

About the neighborhood
We very much like our home and the location, because of its high quality of life and relaxing environment. We are enjoying the unobstructed view at sunset from our hilltop, surrounded by fields and meadows. At the same time all infrastructure, convenience and entertainment of a modern, et 7000 years old city is just a 10 minutes bike ride away, same as neighbouring smaller towns and villages in Belgium and the Netherlands, with their typically local hospitality.
Our neighbourhood is composed of 6 houses (no multi-storey buildings) with very nice families. Alongside our premises you find a very popular hiking and cycling trail, not far away from Aachen University hospital.
Regular public transport bus connecting our place to city center stops is at 50m distance from the house. About 1250 m downhill you find all shopping for food and other daily needs.
Unser Haus ist ein Glücksfall für uns, weil wir hier beides haben können: einerseits naturverbunden leben mit freiem Blick in die Landschaft und andererseits alle Annehmlichkeiten der lebendigen Stadt Aachen mit einer 7.000 Jahre alten Geschichte und reicher Kultur. Belgien und die Niederlande sind in unmittelbarer Nähe und können auf Wanderungen oder mit dem Rad erkundet werden.
Unsere Nachbarschaft besteht aus sechs Häusern mit netten Leuten. Das Haus liegt am einem beliebten Wander- und Radweg in einem Landschaftsschutzgebiet oberhalb des Aachener Klinikums. Zur nächsten Bushaltestelle ins Stadtzentrum sind es 50 Meter. Das Subzentrum von Laurensberg mit Einkaufsmöglichkeiten ist 1300 m entfernt.

Een zeer vriendelijk en gastvrij koppel met een aangenaam huis en prachtig verzorgde tuin. Respectvolle en sympathieke mensen. Wij waren uitgenodigd voor de lunch toen we aankwamen . Zo hebben we wat kennis kunnen maken met mekaar. Zeker een aanrader! Het was een simultane ruil en zij hebben ons huis zeer goed schoongemaakt. Dit is spijtig genoeg niet altijd het geval.

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour à Aachen, ville géographiquement et historiquement très riche. L'histoire de cette ville ainsi que celle de Charlemagne sont essentielles pour mieux comprendre cette région. Barbara et Gerd ont laissé à disposition une riche documentation ainsi que de nombreuses propositions de randonnées et de sorties auxquelles nous n'avions pas pensé. Les chemins de randonnées mènent à la Belgique et aux Pays-Bas tout proches. Le jardin est un pur paradis cultivé avec amour et passion (bouquets de fleurs, festin de tomates, de courgettes, de mûres et de fraises, etc.) et décoré avec des œuvres pleines d'humour par Gerd. Maison et environnement fidèles à la description :-))
We had a wonderful, relaxing holiday at Barbara and Gerd's place. Their house is really cozy and warm, and it is situated right at the outskirt of Aachen, so you have a nice views of fields and a large garden - while still being inside a beautiful local neighbourhood of Aachen. We enjoyed the spas of Aachen and also had some nice (train) trips to nearby Maastricht and Köln. The exchange itself was completely unproblematic, and Barbara and Gerd are very nice people. We highly recommend!
