Pretty house in a seaside famous destination
Welcome Intervac friends,
to our bright and quiet town house, a pleasant place to spend a few days of vacation and discovery. It's a two-storey house with an outdoor courtyard that's virtually unoverlooked.
Its location is ideal, in a quiet area close to the town center and the sea. It's a short walk to the Grand Marché (voted 2nd most beautiful market in France), just 350 meters from the house, as well as to other stores, boutiques, restaurants, wine bars, oyster bars, ice cream parlors, etc., and to the town's beaches.
The nearest beach is 800 meters away - a large beach known as the “Grande Conche” - the other beaches are a little further away, but still within reasonable distance. You can get around by bike in Royan, where there are well-maintained cycle paths and several types of bikes for hire.

Royan is the perfect example of a town with many faces, mixing two styles of architecture - Brazilian-inspired 50s architecture and Belle Époque neighborhoods with attractive villas. Built at the head of a bay between two cliff-formed points, the town boasts a pretty marina and 5 fine sandy beaches, from the small cove to the 2.6 km long large beach.
This seaside town has been attracting holidaymakers for over 150 years. Labelled a “ville d'art et d'histoire” (town of art and history), you'll find remarkable listed monuments, two museums and emblematic sites to visit.
Here in Royan and the surrounding area, there's a wide choice of activities and visits of all kinds: local exhibitions and markets, local music and festivals, sporting, cultural or gastronomic meetings and events :https://www.royanatlantique.fr/en/explorer/
The town lies at the mouth of Europe's largest estuary, the Gironde. A daily ferry service takes you to the coast opposite, to the Médoc, the famous Bordeaux wine-growing region.
The house is designed to accommodate up to 4 adults maximum, who can go up and down stairs without difficulty. Now, we prefer to exchange with people without children.
On the first floor you'll find :
- A small kitchen equipped with dishwasher, induction hob, kettle, moka coffee maker, teapot and all kinds of cooking utensils. Please note that we do not have a microwave oven. Our kitchen and electrical equipment is in very good condition and clean.
- A scullery, which can also be used as an entrance hall, contains an oven, fridge/freezer, coffee machine, storage cupboards and a library of cookery books.
- A dining room opens onto the kitchen.
- A living room with sofa, armchairs and flat-screen TV connected to Orange, Netflix, AmazonPrime and Samsung. A hi-fi system with vinyl records (and a selection of DVDs and CDs too)
- A library with armchairs, books on art, architecture, maritime adventures, and a few board games.
- A bathroom with walk-in shower, washbasin and toilet.
Upstairs:
- 2 bedrooms with double beds (140cm bed in one, 160cm bed in the other) with space to store your belongings.
- Bathroom with walk-in shower, washbasin and toilet.
- An office/library area with novels, detective novels and comic books.
- Laundry room with washing machine, sink, dryer, shoe storage and clothes closet. No tumble dryer.
- A small open veranda with an outside staircase leading to the courtyard, which doubles as a tumble dryer!
Outside, a courtyard has been laid out as a small garden for relaxing or eating (plancha and barbecue), with garden table and chairs. There are a few potted plants (to be watered in the heat, thank you!), an umbrella and recliners with small coffee tables.
Our street is one-way and not very busy. It's actually an alley, with no sidewalk and a slope. Parking is free and you can park your car along the wall of our house (no designated parking space). Neighbors are discreet when they come here to occupy their second homes.
We would like to be able to carry out a home exchange preferably simultaneously - our house is our main residence - and during school vacations (winter, spring, autumn) or summer vacations. As Olivier is a teacher, we are dependent on school vacations in zone A in France.
