We have no specific travel planned yet, so if you are interested in seeing the great Midwest of the US, let us know when you want to travel and we might very well be able to trade with you!

Single family home in quiet neighborhood, small town, 68 miles to Lake Michigan.

Our home is 2 stories with a driveway and garage. We have a living room, large dining room, TV room, and kitchen, open plan. Also on the first floor are an office with full internet, a bedroom with large closet and queen-size bed, and a full bathroom with tub/shower combination.
Upstairs there are 2 additional, large bedrooms with large closets, and another full bathroom with large shower.
We are located in a very beautiful small town in the Southwestern part of Michigan where we can walk to restaurants, the post office, the hospital, library, and many shops. Our town is well known throughout the area for its friendliness, safety, and charm.

From here you can visit many large, midwestern cities such as Detroit, Chicago, Indianapolis, and Minneapolis within half a day travel. Nearby as well as all over the state of Michigan there are large wilderness areas for hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, swimming, boating, birdwatching, and other outdoor activities.
We are about 7 miles from the Amtrak train station which connects with all major cities and states in the Northern, Mideastern, and Western U.S. We are also very close to Canada; the Ambassador Bridge joining Detroit and Windsor, Ontario is only 4.6 miles, or you can also travel the same by the tunnel.

About Our Family

My husband, Bob, and I are retired but very active and healthy.

We love to travel, but also are involved in our community as volunteers, activists, and teachers. Bob is an experienced bird-watcher and photographer; I greatly enjoy sewing, reading, and volunteer work in our community.
Both of us are very interested in the arts, music, history, architecture, theater, and literature. Bob was an English teacher in a large high school and I was a representative for the Pennsylvania affiliate of the National Education Association.

We enjoyed a very successful exchange with a family in the UK in the summer of 2016 and previously with a family in France in 1996.
We are looking forward to 2024-25 and would like very much to travel to any of the Nordic countries, the Netherlands, South America, Australia, Iceland and many other places, too. So if you are interested in coming to a beautiful, small town and historic area near many, many wonderful sites to tour, please be in touch!

We would like to do house exchanges or stays in vacation houses and prefer to be on our own, if possible, but would consider a hospitality stay if necessary. Our home is available for as little as a week, even if we are going to be away longer than that.
NOTE - I have a very small knowledge of French, Spanish, and Italian; our only reliable language is English!

Lifestyle

We are active, curious travelers. We like being in the middle of cities or near walkable small towns, but would also enjoy a stay out in the country. We much prefer old, traditional housing to ultra-modern or cookie-cutter housing tracts, but are open to all kinds of accommodations.

We would enjoy locations that are historic or near historic sites and hope to have public transportation nearby. We enjoy hiking, biking, going to museums, historic sites, theater, libraries, government buildings, or just relaxing!
